Desert Safe Cookies

Got a call from a friend yesterday who is making care packages for the troops in Iraq. She wanted to know if I’d contribute, and of course I said yes. So that’s what I’m working on this morning.

While I was surfing for some good cookie recipes, I came across this link with some recipes for Desert Safe Cookies. These all sound pretty good. I haven’t been cooking with shortening lately, but in this case, it might be worth running to the store for some.

Hi there, hope you had a good day today! I’ve been browsing through your recipes, and I just thought I’d say hi! It sounds like it’s a pretty quiet holiday weekend for you. I’m thinking of trying the molasses cookie recipe (I actually have a bag of turbinado sugar that I bought to compare various sugars to torch on creme brulee and now I need to find a use for the rest of it.) I’m also curious to try the malted chocolate chip cookies recipe and many others on your site. Thanks and hope you have a great Fourth. :)

FYI regarding the canned meat. No pork products are allowed in a Muslim country and will be confiscated. Therefore, no SPAM or meat sticks that have pork in them.

My ex husband was in the Marines and one of our wives groups made up a bunch of cookies to send over to them. I made the following and he called me after he got the box and he had tried several of them and he said most of them weren’t good but he said there was one that was really good. He said he couldn’t remember the name but it was a strange one. I asked him if it was Dishpan Cookies and he said that was the one. Those are the ones I made for him. How can I post that recipe to this group?
