Some Pictures and Recipes From a Chicago Cook-Off

The IGA Hometown Holidays Cook-Off Wrap-Up has been posted. Pictures are here. This is probably the last time you’ll see me in chef’s clothes. They let us take the jackets home, so maybe I’ll wear mine around the house to impress people that show up throughout the day…like the UPS guy or those kids who sell magazines.

Another thing I brought home from the contest was a bunch of great recipes . The cake in this photo is Roxanne Chan’s “Zesty Steamed Citrus Cake with Citrus Compote”. I found it strangely mesmerizing.

By the way. Ignore that lava cake recipe on the PDF and go with the one I’ve posted on my blog. Since the contest, I’ve improved it by using less butter and cake flour.

    I’m dying to know how Roxanne’s steamed cake recipe tasted…did you get to try it? She comes up with such innovative flavor combinations.

    I have the PB lava cake mixed up and ready to go into the oven for company tonight! You’re a star!

    Lindsay, I tasted the cake. It was light and very interestingly flavored. As for the peanut butter lava cakes, make sure you take it out of the refrigerator about an hour before cooking. If you don’t, you will probably have to cook the cakes a bit longer.
