In case you make this recipe, Trader Joe’s sells incredibly delicious tart morello cherries in juice. They come in a jar imported from Germany. I use them all the time for cherry pies and cobblers. I got the tip from a CI article years ago.
They just had tons of sour cherry pie cherries at our farmer’s market today. I had to talk myself out of it because I just shouldn’t be eating pie! But I love cherry pie and have only ever made it out of the canned cherries.
