A Cupcake Smackdown Recipe

Hey Cupcake Enthusiasts!

Here’s a new recipe for you, courtesty of my friend Jennie who held the first ever Cupcake Smackdown here in Austin. The smackdown, which I unfortunately could not attend, was a huge success and Jennie’s already planning the next one. She’s in the midst of posting some of the winning recipes, and here’s one of them. This is by Kelly Guerra, who took second place.

    What a great idea. Our Master Gardeners have been doing things at the local farmers markets. Maybe I’ll suggest doing a cupcake event using in-season produce. But then I’ll get commissioned to run it, so maybe it’s not such a good idea. 🙁

    In the directions for the frosting, Kelly says she uses lime curd mixed in the buttercream. At what point do you put the curd in, and how much? Any ideas?

    i think this is actually my first comment on your site, but definitely not my first look. i absolutely love all the recipes i have made from here, which is quite a few. i just came back from a trip to europe (where i had AMAZING pastries) and could not wait to see all the new recipes to try. unfortunately, i was a little disappointed by the changes on the site! i guess it’ll take some getting used to…

    Hi Michelle,
    In one of the into paragraphs, it says the buttercream is enhanced by the addition of lime curd “to taste”. I’m assuming you can just stir it in at the end. That should work.

    Sandra, I hope the new layout doesn’t scrare you off! I could go back to the old one, but I like some of the new features that work with this one — like thumbnail photos in the category listing.
