Good Morning from Rome

I’m limiting my computer time which is why pictures are so random and sporadic, but I wanted to say thanks to everyone following this little adventure.

If you are going to Rome and Florence in the near future, feel free to email me in the upcoming weeks and maybe I can offer tips or experience.  Before I left, I used knowledge from friends and Trip Advisor.  Both were so helpful, but I found the recommendations from friends or people with the same interests (baking, wine, travel) to be the most helpful.

This is our last day here in Rome and we all slept late (I took some melatonin and I think it works a little too well!) and are getting a late start.  We’re going to go stomp around the Borghese Gardens and visit the Pantheon which is right out the door of our hotel.  At some point, I’ll post some pictures for the Torre Argentina Cat Sanctuary.  We spent a lot of time there yesterday and the volunteers are always so friendly.  They introduced us to each cat, told us about their special needs (if any) and gave us toys to play with them.

I also want to post pictures of a new cookie I discovered in Florence.  It’s called pan de pescatore which translates to something like “bread of the fisherman”.  It’s a cookie that looks like an almond & raisin studded stone, which is why it’s also called an Italian scone.  At Caffe Maioli, one of the bakers told me how to make the cookie.  I loved getting directions straight from the source in Italian.  For instance, after you add the “white powder” you have to set the dough aside and let it “grow up”.

Yikes, I have to go.  Bye.

    Anna,
I have SO enjoyed reading about your adventures in Italy. I’m heading with my hubs and friends for two weeks at the end of June, and we can’t wait. Thank you for sharing!

We are also headed to Rome in mid-June, traveling with our two teen-aged sons. We are interested in hearing about your “foodie” recommendations; we all like to try new culinary experiences!

IF, and that’s a BIG IF, I were in Rome, I’d also be limiting my computer time. My sister and I are determined to take our dream trip there one day! Have a great time! But, how could you not?
