Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!  To celebrate, here’s a blast from the past — Outrageous Chocolate Chip Cookies.  It’s an old recipe from allrecipes.com with an interesting balance of ingredients. The peanut butter flavor isn’t very strong, but it’s certainly detectable.  As for the oats, there are just enough of them to give the cookies some bumpiness. [...]

Favorite Bran Muffin

by Anna on May 14, 2010 · 11 comments

Bran Muffin

I think I’ve found my favorite bran muffin. The recipe was sent over by a friend who said it was bakeshop quality – just like you’d get at Little Miss Muffin. And she was right. The muffins were moist, the perfect sweetness, had just the right amount of oil to keep them from being too rich or too dry, and had an interesting blend of flavors from bran, wheat germ and trio of extracts.

Salted Brownies

Salted Brownies

It seemed like a brownie kind of morning, but then I logged on to Bake or Break and that sealed the deal. The word “salted” got my attention, but what I really liked about this brownie recipe was the combination of small amounts of unsweetened chocolate and cocoa powder. Brownies made with a little of [...]

Tongue Guard!

by Anna on May 13, 2010 · 16 comments

Chocolate Chip Bourbon Pecan Bread

Sorry today’s post is late. Long story short, the bathtub cracked, maintenance had to come seal it with something called “Bondo” and the pets and I had to evacuate. Luckily, I made this recipe last night, and since it’s a “better the next day” recipe we had something good to come home to …

Claim Jumper Bran Muffins

by Anna on May 11, 2010 · 31 comments

Bran muffin

Claim Jumper is a California Gold Rush themed restaurant known for large portions and “signature desserts”.  Or at least that’s what Wikipedia says.  I’ve never been to a Claim Jumper, but the name kept coming up during my search for a dark, moist bran muffin recipe.  This one’s called “Claim Jumper Dark Honey Bran Muffins”, which is a funny [...]

Texas Sheet Cake

by Anna on May 10, 2010 · 5 comments

Texas Sheet Cake

This Texas Sheet Cake is shiny, sets up like fudge but is soft on the bottom and flaky on the top, and can be made with or without nuts. As for the cake, it’s usually made in 15×10 inch pan, always calls for either buttermilk or sour cream, and can be made with or without cinnamon. Lady Bird Johnson’s Mexican Chocolate Cake, which some claim to be the original Texas Sheet Cake, is made with cinnamon.
