Moving out of a third floor apartment takes energy, so this week I was happy to have a few boxes of Nature Valley Granola Thins on hand. The company sent them to us for a taste test, and they are terrific. They kind of remind me of my favorite British cookie, Hob Nobs, but thinner, lighter, square and coated with either dark chocolate or peanut butter. I also like how they’re individually wrapped, so I can carry them around in my purse. They’ve been a real-life saver and thanks to the Texas sun, I’ve learned they are delicious when melted and would probably make awesome S’mores. Hmmmm. I need to get on that, but first I want to offer you an opportunity at a chance to win some Nature Valley Granola Thins in a gift basket.
If you’d like to win a Nature themed gift basket with some Granola Thins, a mug, mouse pad and desk calendar (as pictured above), leave me a comment telling me where you go to get in touch with nature. It can be your backyard, a far away place, a park….you tell me. Fuzz and I will pick the winner at random on Thursday July 15th. Cut-off point is Wednesday–midnight July 14th. Good luck!
P.S. I really enjoy reading your comments in these little giveaways so even if you don’t win the basket, thanks for sharing.

The Utah mountains. I grew up in Utah, but now live in Oklahoma. So going to visit the Utah mountains is a special treat for me.
my own backyard is my favorite nature spot. I think my toddler grandson would love to munch on these when we play outside.
I love going to Castlewood Canyon State Park in Colorado for short hikes, beautiful scenery and a picnic.
My favorite nature spot is the beach – watching the dolphins play and seagulls soar and pelicans dive bomb into the water.
My home is surrounded with woods. I see something new every day on a walk through them, and even more when I stop, look, and listen.
I go visit my parents in WA state. I love taking walks around their neighborhood, such a beautiful area with trees all over. We usually see bunnies but sometimes we get lucky with a deer or two!
The Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County, MD. The trail winds through the woods, up hills and over streams. It is a wonderful place to take a hike and enjoy all the beautiful creation. The trees are full and thick and the path is laden with many historical markers giving details as to the trail’s rich history.
I love going to a nearby park that has waterfalls. Maybe I watched too many episodes of “Fantasy Island” as a child, but there’s just something magical about waterfalls.
I love to go to the Alexandria Bay/1000 islands and up into Canada. The St. Lawrence is so majestic.
Since we just moved to Colorado this spring, I’m enjoying nature everywhere!! Looking out my back window I can see the mountains…we have elk that visit our neighborhood and we have almost ran head-on into a herd of them grazing when we take our dogs for walks. Truly amazing nature everywhere we look!
I am fortunate enough to have a very lovely and serene backyard in Jamesport,NY ~ I get to sit on the back terrace and watch the birds, deer, bunnies and even once a cougar (it had escaped from somewhere and was later caught safely in the next town over). Thanks for the chance to win and enjoy the rest of your week!
We have a Nature Center near our house and the kids like to go there. Walking trails, lots of bugs, birds and flowers.
My backyard! Love to watch all the wildlife,we have a lot of bunnies running here & I love to watch them play! I love the fact that you read our comments to you ,so many times when I comment on a blog I feel like no one is reading them. Thank You for all the great ideas!
I’m in the Ozarks, so the Buffalo River is our nature preserve!
My favorite thing growing up was to go camping on the coast (Oregon). Now that I live in a land-locked state, I really miss the ocean!
The river near my house. Lovely
I’m living in the Colorado mountains this summer, so there’s nature everywhere! It’s so nice to wake up to the birds chirping and the fresh mountain air smell.
For a drive – Central Texas has beautiful country roads that take you places and let you get aways all at the same time!
I love hiking. The beach, lakes, rivers or even pools provide a great place for me to commune with nature.
I enjoy going to Devil’s Icebox. It’s awesome to go to when it’s really hot outside because it’s 20 degrees cooler down there and it’s amazing.
I live in San Diego, so the beach is definitely my happy place.
The beach. Everything sounds different out there. Try not to get sand in your food though.
I love the mountains and the woods. Also, we have a park close by that’s beautiful.
I love the ocean–it’s nature at its best!

John Boyd Thacher Park in upstate New York is one place I go to enjoy nature. It has beautiful views and trails and is also a great picnic/grilling spot. My boyfriend and I go there to grill out every summer.
Love to head West (Colorado, Arizona, etc) and do some hiking in the mountains!
I like looking at water and there is a lake by my house, that i retreat to when I need some nature.
Northern California, where I lived for a brief time, is a place of healing for me. Somewhere between the redwoods and the rocky coast, I find my breath comes more easily and my stress level plummets. It’s wonderful!
We live in the country so it surrounds us. We just go outside and we love to lay on the trampoline and look at the stars!
I am a geologist and spend a lot of time outside. One of the most amazing things I did a couple of weeks ago was going to the Smokey Mountains and watching the synchronized fireflies. It was wonderful!!
Mmmm…I want to try these! I’m a total picnic kind of gal and love nothing more than a little (yep, little) hike followed by a gourmet picnic. =0)
I enjoy taking little weekend trips whenever I can to visit new spots. One of my favorites was to Carlsbad Caverns. We spent hours just wandering through the caves.
I love to go to Big Bend National Park. You can be in the desert one hour and the mountains the next. It’s just amazing!
Isabella, Minnesota…My father has been going there since he was a little boy and has passed the tradition on to my sister and I. It is the most beautiful and serene place I have ever found…and I have been to a lot of places. You just can’t beat the peace and tranquility that you experience in northeastern Minnesota!
I go to Reedville Va to our little country house right off of the Chesapeake Bay. I was there for the 4th of July and saw a bald eagle fly over our yard! It was amazing!
the beach… love the sun and sand!
My nature place is the beach…I grew up in Florida.
i love running! so anywhere outdoors where i can run i love to connect with nature. there is a great bike path a few minutes from my house so that’s a great place to go on a regular basis. also, i love going on trips… the beaches in cameroon (west africa) are amazing, as are the coast of southern CA with the hiking beaches… ahhh love it!
Florida beaches! You just can’t beat the powder-sugar type sand and wonderfully warm water! I also love to collect all types of shells and sand dollars
I live in a beautiful old western Pennsylvania neighborhood full of hills, trees, streams, and charming brick & stone houses. It’s such a peaceful and quiet area, and I love just going for walks to feel “at one” with nature. It really makes me appreciate beautiful summer days!
The Botanic Gardens in Fort Worth! When I’m there, I forget that I’m actually in the city! It’s beautiful!
Newlin Creek Trail in the Florence (Colorado) Mountain Park. The trail goes up a mountain and you have to cross a little creek 17 times on the way up (and on the way down, too). There are wild raspberries growing alongside the creek at the end of the trail at the top of the mountain.
I go running in the neighborhood. You miss the little details of the scenery when you’re just driving through.
I love the Pacific Northwest … Oregon up through Washington state and Vancouver Island!
I love to go for runs or walks by the lake. Something about the water is just so soothing to me!
The Gulf Coast beaches!!!
Any of our national parks! My husband and I love exploring our national parks and lakeshores and hiking into the backcountry!
I love just being outside with my toddler–she makes eveything, even a backyard, seem so exciting. But the national parks are amazing–and can’t wait to introduce my little one to all that our world has to offer!
There are many places that I would like to go, but the place I can and frequently do go is my back yard. We have an acre and we have a swing under a huge oak tree. There are woods in the back of our yard and the swing faces them. We also have a pool. I love to ‘escape’ there when no one else is around. I float and look up at the sky. I can see the trees up high, and i love the contrast of the greens against the clear blue sky. I love clouds and watching them. I listen and can hear cardinals and Northern Harringers or Mississippi Kites (im not sure which it is yet) but it makes the most beautiful sound. It almost sounds like an eagle. All this is around me and it is so peaceful. Im in awe to be in the midst of this beautiful creation that God has made. It is like my little retreat in the midst of my very busy days with 7 children (6 at home), homeschooling, house work, …..so yes, i do have to escape when no one sees me and i only get 30-40 minutes before someone realizes im gone
My grandparents lived in Southern California. I would visit in the summer and lounge next to their backyard pool. They had created a little bricked garden to line the backyard. They grew rhubarb and strawberries next to the Birds of Paradise. The neighbor’s avocado tree hung heavy over the brick fence; we were allowed to pick ripe ones anytime we wanted. I would watch the pool reflect on the overhang of the house and feel so relaxed. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better, my grandmother would bring out a tray of turkey sandwiches on onion rolls, wavy chips with Lipton onion dip, and Nestea instant iced tea. I was always tempted to take the Nestea plunge! We would end the day by watching the Disneyland fireworks from their driveway. I’m not very outdoorsy, but when I’m stressed out, that’s my “go-to” memory!
