Toll House Back-to-School Giveaway

by Anna on August 30, 2010 · 86 comments

The lazy days of summer are over, and Fuzz is back in school. We’re settling into a new routine of homework, after school activities, quick play dates and waking up early. I think I took not having to wake up to an alarm clock this summer for granted.

Despite the early mornings, we’re steadily easing into the new school schedule. The challenge we’re facing is staying connected with friends from Fuzz’s old school – kids she’s known since kindergarten and who she’ll meet up with again in junior high. To keep the girls connected, Fuzz stayed in her old Brownie troop, has arranged play dates with old friends after school, and weekend play dates with others. This weekend we invited one of Fuzz’s best buds (her mom calls her Lil’ Miss) over to bake goodies with some gifts from Toll House. The girls had so much fun that I’ve decided to institute a weekly “Baking with Buddies” session to keep the girls connected.

The plan is to keep it simple. We’ll eventually do some scratch baking, but the girls had so much fun making Make it Your Way Cookie Cups with packaged cookie dough, Mini Toppings and other goodies, that I think I’ll let them do some super easy recipes for a while so I can relax behind the camera and take more goofy pictures. I just can’t let their talent of pretending they are TV commercial kids go to waste.

Thanks to Toll House for sending us coupons for free cookies, toppings, matching aprons and super cute labels. And thanks for sending an extra one for me to give to one reader.

For a chance at the Toll House gift pack, go to the Toll House website and pick one recipe you think would be good for an easy, non-stressful, baking session with kids.  In the comment section below, tell me what it is.

A comment will be drawn at random by Fuzz or her friend.  This giveaway ends Friday (September 3) at noon CST.  You can continue posting comments after that, but they won’t be considered for the prize.    Also, I am limiting this one to the contiguous US states due to postage issues.

Here’s a picture of the cookie cups, btw.  This is before they poured on Magic Shell, and I’m not sure you really want to see that.

Here’s a better shot of the apron.  Fuzz is a little more mellow in this shot since I took it a few days ago.

A chocolate chip pie sounds perfect.

Those gals sure were hamming it up for the camera… looks like they had a ball! I enjoyed the glimpses of your new kitchen in the background… beautiful space for all your baking and cooking. Very nice indeed!

bakingblonde August 30, 2010 at 10:24 am

How can you say no to the Marshmallow sandwich cookies. I bet they would be great with graham cracker crumbs combined in the batter and using chopped Hershey’s milk chocolate bars instead of chips!

Crystal August 30, 2010 at 10:30 am

I like the idea of the Cookie Dippers because you could use nuts, sprinkles, mini m&m’s, etc.

Pam August 30, 2010 at 10:39 am

My favorite isn’t listed. I make S’Mores cookies using refrigerated cookie dough, mini marshmallows, and Hershey’s chocolate bars. Bake the cookies according to the package directions but 2 minutes before they are done, remove from the oven. Place 3-4 mini marshmallows on top and return to the oven for 2-3 more minutes. Remove from the oven and immediately place a piece of chocolate on each cookie. Wait 30 seconds then spread the chocolate around. Delicious!

Not for young kids, but 8-10 year olds could do this, with supervision.

Sara August 30, 2010 at 11:12 am

love the cookie dippers! my kids love to decorate their own cookies, and make new creations. love your recipes!

Polly August 30, 2010 at 11:29 am

I thought that the cookie cups looked fun. They could be filled with a lot of different things. Let the girls be creative.

Lori August 30, 2010 at 11:35 am

The One Big Cookie looks like it would be a lot of fun to decorate with my kids!!

Alyson August 30, 2010 at 11:38 am

One Big Cookie would be a great blank canvas for some creative decorating!

Emily August 30, 2010 at 11:42 am

I too think one big cookie would be a lot of fun but the girls look like they would have fun with any of the recipes.

Katrina August 30, 2010 at 11:45 am

What cute pictures, Anna. How fun. (Wish we could still have play dates with our old friends. Sigh.) ;)
Those cookie ice cream cups look really fun, and we love ice cream ’round here. But the boys would love to go to town with the Big Cookie and decorating. Hello–sprinkles! And those new mini toppers would be fun to decorate with, too!

Veronica August 30, 2010 at 11:53 am

1 BIIIIIIGGGGG Cookie! That’s definitely the winner! My girls would love to press it all down on the cookie sheet like they were playing with Play-Dough, than decorate it with any fun toppings they’d like!

NanW August 30, 2010 at 12:07 pm

My kids will love making the marshmallow sandwich cookies since they love marshmallows just as much as chocolate. Thanks for the idea, we’ll try it this weekend!

Stephanie August 30, 2010 at 12:23 pm

love the idea of the one big cookie… my kiddos like to help with the mixing, but seem to loose interest as soon as the first sheet of cookies is out of the oven. I think they’d love this recipe, and wouldn’t abandon me in the kitchen.

Wendy August 30, 2010 at 12:26 pm

They look like they had a blast! Such fun! =)
Here are my suggestions… you could make so many variations with both of these recipes!

Geriann August 30, 2010 at 12:45 pm

The One Big Cookie looks sooo good. I love TollHouse cookies

Michelle August 30, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Chocolate Caramel Brownies would be my pick because one of my twins loves chocolate and the other loves caramel, so these look perfect – and start with a cake mix.

Kris Carpenter August 30, 2010 at 12:50 pm

Cookie Dippers…the possibilities are endless – chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, etc. The sprinkles could be holiday specific or any number of candies and/or nuts! What’s easier than slice and bake cookies and what’s more fun than dressing them up to suit your personality!

Sarah Jane August 30, 2010 at 12:54 pm

no bake chocolate peanut butter bars. had to dig in the site a little bit to find that one, but my nephew loves PB

Rhonda in OK August 30, 2010 at 1:04 pm

I like brown chocolate but white chocolate is my very favorite, so the White Chip Chocolate Cookies recipe looks good to me.
my grandson would have lots of fun with the shaker with the cookie cups

Erin F August 30, 2010 at 1:21 pm

I would say the “Cookie Dippers” look perfect! So many possibilities!!

Mary M August 30, 2010 at 1:41 pm

I think the cookie dippers would be fun. You could even bake the cookies before-hand and leave the decorating to them.

Tiffany August 30, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Those are funny pictures! What cute kids. I will have to try out the cookie dippers with my own kids!

Charlotte August 30, 2010 at 2:00 pm

Shari August 30, 2010 at 2:42 pm

I would never be able to pass up the regular chocolate chip cookies. My 3-year-old helps me bake them all the time!

Fallon August 30, 2010 at 3:16 pm

I’d love to do the cookie dippers with kids! They can dip them into any chocolate and garnish with any topping. Be fun way to loosen up and have fun! Plus the best part is eating them at the end.

Aly August 30, 2010 at 4:08 pm

Absoutely the oatmeal raisin whoopie pies!

Patty August 30, 2010 at 4:21 pm
