Argh
Today I tried making some apple bars off Recipezaar, they were tasty, but not worth posting on the blog. Win some, lose some, right?

Anna,
I know that you freeze some of your cookies and I was wondering if you did it with the dough or the finished product. I plan on making your pecan pie chocolate chunk cookies from July 2005 and was wondering about a good way to make them keep. Thanks!
Hate it when that heppens. Feels like a waste of perfectly good ingredients. Want a recipe for Graham Cracker-Coconut-Pineapple Cake to distract yourself? I’ve made it twice in the past two weeks, to raves both times. Even people who don’t like coconut love it.
I made a batch of Caramel Apple Oatmeal Bars last weekend, using apple pie filling, caramels, and sweetened condensed milk. They tasted good, but when they were cut, they didn’t hold their shape (I seem to have a problem with that, don’t I?). Actually, last year I made a recipe for a caramel apple brownie and that didn’t work out the best either. What happened with your apple bars?
Annie, I like freezing the dough. Usually I form mounds, freeze the mounds, then wrap them tightly until I am ready to bake them. I usually let them thaw out a bit before I bake them.
Kristin, the apple bars were actually pretty good, just not good enough wherein I feel like recommending the recipe. As for that recipe, I have that one you are talking about and people go nuts over it. If you sent me yours, I will post it here for everyone else. I’m pretty sure ours are the same.
Laurel, my apple bars had a crust that was a bit thick and too bready. The were more like cobbler bars than apple pie bars. They really were good, just not great. They actually held their shape well. Gosh, maybe I should post the recipe
.
This week my preschool class was studying the letter “A” and about Alec the alligator who baked apple pies, apple, muffins, and apple cookies. I made apple oatmeal cookies. The turned out really good and stayed moist because of the apple in them. The kids loved them.
I think you do need to post that recipe so we can all try it…lol!
Anna,
Like you say, you win some, you lose some. It sounds like 99% of the things you bake turn out great so I guess you have to make something less than perfect once in a while. If you are looking for something delicious to make with apples that tastes like the fall and the holidays you have to try these. http://www.puffpastry.com/recipedetail.aspx?recipeID=23976&rc=-1
I thought they were a bit of a pain to make and as I was making them as I thinking that I’d never make them again. Then I tried one and the rest of the family tried several and we all agreed they were really, really good so that recipe’s a keeper.
Thank you for telling us about the Taste of Home Halloween magazine. I found one of the last copies and it has some great recipes in there. My 11 yr old daughter and I are going to try to make the witch puddles for her karate party.
Brenda, I thought about it, but nah. They’re just not that good. I will try some new apple bars, though.
In fact, Jacke, those puff pastry things you posted sound awesome! I love using puff pastry. In fact, we were just at the grocery store and I picked some up, then put some back. I must have sensed you, out there in the ether, posting a comment telling me to use puff pastry. I should have put the puff pastry in the basket and bought it.
Have fun with TOH Halloween magazine. Better Homes and Gardens has a Christmas Cookie magazine out which looks good too. That’s next on my list.
