Reese’s Minis Peanut Butter Bars

Reese

If you love peanut butter bars but have had bad experiences with ones that are too dry, try this recipe! As of today, it’s my favorite. These are dense, moist and fun to look at thanks to the scattering of Reese’s Minis and Reese’s Pieces on top. However, if you don’t want to deal with [...]

Tracys Special Scotcheroos

Scotcheroos with Special K cereal

I was craving Scotcheroos last week, so I went to H.E.B., gathered most of the ingredients, then discovered that the store was completely out of Nestle butterscotch morsels. After being helped by a friendly employee who was sympathetic towards my predicament and offered several substitution ideas even though she’d never tasted Scotcheroos, I put all [...]

Sweet & Salty Peanut Bars

by Anna on April 18, 2012 · 4 comments

sweet and salty peanut butter bars

This was literally a clean out the pantry recipe. I had about a handful of peanuts, some miniature boxes of granola, and a cup of white chips, all of which needed to be used and all of which could be found in this one, easy, bar cookie. Adapted from a book I bought years ago [...]

O’ Henry Bars

by Anna on June 16, 2011 · 16 comments

O Henry

Today’s cookie was inspired by a candy bar introduced in the 1920s called Oh Henry! Made with peanuts, caramel and fudge, some say Oh Henry! was named for a boy who frequented the Williams Candy factory in Chicago, where the bar was invented. Nobody really knows, but claims that it was named …

Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Bars

Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Bars

These are called Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Bars and the recipe is actually very, very simple. You bake a thin layer of brownie, pour on a mixture of condensed milk and peanut butter (the condensed milk flavor is not strong), top it with milk chocolate and peanut butter chips, bake, cool, then drizzle on more of the melted chips. The recipe is very streamlined

Peanut Butter Mud Hen Bars

Peanut Butter Mud Hens

So I’ve learned a few things this week — mostly about bar cookies with meringue and brown sugar on top. First I re-discovered an old recipe called Halfway Cookies where you spread dough across a pan, press in some chocolate chips, then spread the top with a mixture of egg white and brown sugar. I [...]

Sweet & Salty Peanut Bars

peanut butter bars

This week I’ve been cooking out of an old magazine full of prize winners from Allrecipes.com. I was hoping every recipe would be on-line, but I had a hard time finding yesterday’s meatloaf (It had “Elvis” in the title) and couldn’t find this recipe either, which was called Sweet & Salty Peanut Bars but …

Chocodile Bars

by Anna on April 23, 2010 · 17 comments

chocodiles

Today’s cookie, another recipe from the old Bake-Off book, was “Chocodile Bars”. It’s a cookie with a firm peanut butter base and a topping made with melted chocolate, peanut butter, and a cereal called Corn Soya which I’d never heard of and had to look up on Mr. Breakfast. It sounds kind of good, but [...]
