This morning has been a domino effect of bad baking experiences.
— First, I ruined a cookie by I don’t know how. It just wasn’t good.
— Second, I messed up a brownie by forgetting to add half the flour.
This has happened enough times for me to know that when one thing goes wrong in the kitchen, a series of mistakes will follow and the best thing to do is just clean the kitchen and get out of the house.
But before I get in the car and drive aimlessly around Austin, here’s a picture of one cookie I did manage to pull together. This is a Magnola Bakery recipe which was adapted (of course) by Smitten Kitchen. Since we’ve been discussing trendy NYC bakery cookies, I think you will enjoy the blog entry that accompanies the recipe…..even though it’s old.
My cookies are flatter than Smitten Kitchen’s, but they taste okay, which is the best I could hope for this morning. Now I’m heading out. Maybe to Walgreen’s to look at make-up or to the Goodwill store….
