We’ve stayed at The Grand Floridian and have enjoyed its restaurants, but I didn’t realize The Grand Floridian had a signature chocolate chip cookie. The only ones I ever saw were the Minnie's Bake Shop cookies in the lobby gift shop. But I guess somewhere in the hotel they serve these cookies, and this is supposedly the Grand Floridian chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Chocolate Chip Cookies with Less Butter

I couldn't resist trying this recipe even though I already have my own Minnie's Bake Shop clone which I posted years ago. It's very similar to this one but with slightly different ratios. And honestly, the ratio of butter to everything else in this Grand Floridian version seemed too low. I almost skipped, but figured if the cookies didn’t taste great, they would at least look nice.

Large Size Chocolate Chips

Well, it turns out they look and taste good. Using large size chocolate chips (and a lot of them) probably helped with that. Next time I might use chocolate chunks. I didn't even need to chill the dough. The Grand Floridian Chocolate Chip Cookies were good on day one, so can only imagine they are better with dough that's been chilled for a day or two.

Oreos in the Disney Cookies

One other nice thing about the Grand Floridian chocolate chip dough is you can wrap it around other things. For instance, I wrapped some of the dough around an Oreo and made giant Oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies. I've done it with different doughs over the years, but the Grand Floridian dough worked particularly well. The one in the photo was a a bit overbaked, but I love the cross-section.

Minnie's Bake Shop Clone

Here's a link to my old Minnie's Bake Shop Cookies if you want to compare the two. Interestingly, they both call for powdered sugar in the dough, not granulated. The Minnie's Bake Shop clone is supposed to be made as big cookies, as they were modeled after a company called Selma's that used to sell these really good, giant, candy packed cookies in the parks. Just going by memory, they were a little better when they were Selma's.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (318 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt (increase to 1 if using unsalted butter
  • 10 tablespoons salted butter, softened (140 grams)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar (210 grams)
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar (75 grams)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 12- ounce bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (I used bittersweet)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 330°F. You can use a regular oven or convection.
  • Sift flour, baking soda and salt into a large bowl and set aside. It's okay to just whisk rather than sift.
  • Combine softened salted butter, brown sugar and powdered sugar in a separate bowl and cream with electric mixer until fluffy.
  • With mixer running, add eggs, one at a time, then add vanilla. Mix until combined, scraping sides of bowl.
  • Slowly add flour mixture, scraping sides of bowl. Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Scoop 1 tablespoon dough for medium cookies and 2 tablespoons for large onto ungreased baking sheet or use a medium size cookie scoop (recommended).
  • Bake until light golden, 10 to 12 minutes for medium cookies, 12 to 14 minutes for large. Medium size cookie scoop cookies should take at least 14 minutes at 330.

I was making them all different sizes and lost track, but the original recipe says you should get 18 large or 36 small. In my opinion, these are meant to be medium to large size cookies.

Hi Anna! These look good. I’m guessing there are a lot more than four servings though. Kind of depends on the day though. Lol!
