Caramel Krispie Bars

Modified: Apr 12, 2025 · Published: Oct 25, 2007 by Anna · This post may contain affiliate links · 7 Comments

I'm still not sure where this recipe came from and I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like a great last minute Halloween party treat. It's also a good way to use some of the new unwrapped caramel bits. I really need to try these since it's been posted here for almost 20 years.

Caramel Krispie Bars

¾ cup butter, divided use
8 cups mini marshmallows
8 cups Rice Krispies
14 ounces caramels (or caramel bits)
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

In a large pot, melt ¼ cup butter and 4 cups marshmallows. Add 4 cups Rice Krispies. Transfer to a buttered or foil lined 9 x 13 inch pan and pat down.

Melt caramels, ¼ cup butter and sweetened condensed milk together. Pour over Rice Krispies in pan. Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes.

Prepare another Rice Krispie mixture like the first. Put on top of caramel layer. Keep refrigerated.

Yes, I've been waiting for a good recipe to try out my bits (I found them at our Super Wal Mart a few weeks ago). This looks like a good one. Thanks!

Anna...they sound yummy. I have been experimenting with the Krispy treat recipe since I think I can improve anything( even though the recipe has been around forever) and I have been adding a cup of peanut butter to the butter and marshmallow mixture and then stirring in a cup of chocolate chips with the cereal...they are amazing! I still have not found the caramel bits but I am going to Target today and I will look for them. Thanks
