If you appreciate holiday cookies but your heart wants chocolate chip, here are ten festive chocolate chip cookie recipes. Some of these chocolate chip cookies have extra spices, a few just use special chocolate and others are good for decorating.
Chocolate Coma Cookies
Originally from a Diane Mott Davidson book, These are unique in that they call for chopped up flavored Lindt. We've always made them with the orange flavored bars, dried cranberries and cashews.

Nancy's Clipper Chippers
There's nothing plain about these puffy, soft, crispy-edged cccs. They're spiked with Frangelico and Kahlua and call for three kinds of nuts.

Lisa Keys' Sweet William's Spirited Chocolate Chip
Put some bourbon in your chocolate chip cookies. Or try Scotch. Lisa shared this recipe years ago and it's still a favorite.

Hal's Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookies
Spiced up chocolate chip cookies with a slightly sandier texture. It's not quite a Snowball or shortbread texture, but a little more dense and crumbly than your usual chocolate chip. Everyone will love them.

Shortbread Chocolate Chunk Cookies
And speaking of shortbread, don't forget about these! I find them more appealing as I get older and have less of a (raging out of control) sweet tooth. They are still plenty sweet, but they are more about the butter. People will appreciate the difference.

Miso Chocolate Chip Cookies
I wasn't so keen on putting miso in chocolate chip cookies until I actually tried it. These are fun to serve because you get to watch everyone's reaction to the miso. At our house and with our guests it's been 100% positive. So that makes them festive chocolate chip cookies in my book.
Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies for Decorating
These are suddenly popular again, so why not decorate them with a holiday theme?

Masala Chocolate Chip Cookies
The cardamom and red chile powder enhance the cookies. These are on the large size so maybe not perfect for a cookie exchange, but they'd be an interesting addition to a cookie tray or party table.

Chocolate Chip Gingersnaps
Really veering away from chocolate chip cookies here, but these are surely holiday-ish. I need to put this recipe in recipe card form.

Crispy Potato Chip Chocolate Chip Cookies
Crispy potato chip enhanced cookies work well with regular or gluten-free flour. They're not the most festive chocolate chip cookies, but they are interesting and would fit well on a cookie tray. Or just make them to use up the extra potato chips you bought for a party.

Happy New Year! I'd love your Biriyani recipe since 80% of my cooking is Indian these days.

Thanks for the fun collection! I’ve made a couple of these recipes but obviously need to make a couple that I missed first time around. I wish I had read this while my family was home. They brought spices to make Biriyani so green cardamom was in the house and I would have had easy access to it to try the Masala cookies. I think they would have been delighted with those cookies.
I had forgotten about the chocolate coma cookies. I’d like to make those again.
Hope your holidays have been great. Happy New Year.
