Happy National Pigs in a Blanket Day! Also, that only makes sense if you are reading this on April 24, which is the day we celebrate sausage wrapped in canned dough. Honestly, this is kind of a junk post but it's been parked here for 16 years so I'm adding an actual recipe in case you do happen to be in a sausage and canned bread kind of mood.

A Few Very Important Notes
Since these are such a rarity at our house I can only say that I've only ever used Little Smokies. Any brand of cocktail franks will work. I don't recommend chopping up regular hot dogs. If all you have are hot dogs, just make something else. If it's April 24, go to the store for cocktail franks.
Some people put cheese on Pigs in Blanket, but we prefer dipping in queso if cheese is to be involved. Better choices are ketchup, mustard, honey mustard and barbecue sauce.
You can make Pigs in a Blanket ahead of time. Assemble up to 1 day ahead, cover, and refrigerate. Bake just before serving.
To freeze, freeze unbaked on a parchment lined tray, then store in a zipper bag. Bake from frozen, adding 3-5 minutes.
Recipe

Pigs in a Blanket
Ingredients
- 1 8 oz can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 24 count cocktail sausages or mini hot dogs (12 oz)
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or poppy seeds optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unroll crescent dough and separate into triangles. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3 narrow strips.
- Wrap one strip of dough around each sausage, starting at one end and spiraling to the other. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
- Brush tops lightly with beaten egg and sprinkle with seeds, if using.
- Bake for 10-14 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Serve warm with dipping sauces.

http://www.nationalsushisociety.com/ says that since 1997, November 1 is "Sushi Day". I'm sorry I missed Corn Dog Day, which was March 21st. Since that's our wedding anniversary and my husband doesn't like hot dogs, I guess I could have celebrated at lunch. 😉
