Looking for easy recipes with self-rising flour? Maybe you have a bag of King Arthur Baking Company or White Lily sitting in your pantry, or maybe you just appreciate the efficiency of baking with it. Either way, self-rising flour is one of the most useful shortcuts you can keep on hand..

Because it already contains baking powder and salt, it takes the guesswork out of biscuits, muffins, quick breads, and even some cakes. It's especially great for tender, Southern-style biscuits like the ones here in North Carolina, but it works beautifully in all kinds of everyday baking.
Below is my curated list of the best recipes with self-rising flour on Cookie Madness, including biscuits, banana bread, cookies, and a few unexpected favorites.

Make Your Own Self-Rising Flour
If you don't have self-rising flour, you can make your own:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (about 120-128 grams)
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Whisk together and use immediately.
Tips for Baking with Self-Rising Flour
- Look for brands that don't contain aluminum. King Arthur does not contain it, and White Lily also offers and aluminum-free self-rising flour
- Don't add extra baking powder or salt unless the recipe calls for it since American self-rising flour has plenty of salt.
- Best for biscuits, muffins, and quick breads
- Creates softer, more tender textures than regular flour
- Works especially well with Southern-style recipes. Sometimes mixing it with all-purpose flour can give you the best of both worlds -- softness from the soft wheat and leavening action. When combining it with all-purpose, you'll have to adjust leavening agents.
